What can be done with Left over Food
What to do with left over holiday food
Now that the stretch of holidays is over all the food that was fixed, we now have leftovers because some people didn't eat as much or there was too much food made. Whatever the reason that there was for the abundance of food we have to do something with the leftovers. Depending what was leftover there is a number of ways we can do with the leftover food instead of tossing the food out.
One thing that could be done if you didn't want to keep the leftovers is to take the leftover food to your nearest soup kitchen. The soup kitchens would be grateful for any donations that are giving to them to help feed the hungry. Any little bit of food can go a long ways in the soup kitchen.
Another way to handle the leftovers is to divide the abundance of food among the rest of the guest and it will give them a break from having to come up with something to fix for a couple days. Or you can share the leftovers with a neighbor or two that doesn't have much or maybe one that is elderly that would appreciate the gesture of knowing that there is something quick to fix with them maybe them being the only one at home.
One thing that I have done is I have made TV dinners from the leftovers and put them in the freezer to be use for later meals when I have needed something quick and easy to fix. The divided food trays can be brought at any store and used over and over again.
When my family has gotten tired of country ham, I have found different ways to make the ham. One way that I have done is made ham salad. My family goes through ham salad very quickly. Also, I have ground the ham and put it in mashed potatoes. Another way is to make ham bone soup. With what little ham that is, left after no more sandwiches can be made then yummy hambone soup can be made on that cold rainy or snowy day.
Turkey can go bad very quickly left in the refrigerator, for that reason it has to be used up with in about four or no more then five days. Turkey can be used as turkey sandwiches for a few days. Once the pretty slices are all gone, the rest of the turkey can be used to make turkey potpie. Turkey potpie can always be made then put into the freezer for later use.
Then if there is very little left depending what can be saved and what can't be saved you have two other options. One of those alternatives could be that the leftovers depending what is left can be feed to your pets. If it is chicken or turkey, make sure that you remove all bones from the meat first. Bones from chicken or turkey can splinter and kill your pet. Never give your pet anything that has chocolate in it because it is very harmful to your animal.
The other way is that can be done is to put it out in your garden. When the food deteriorates in the ground, it makes the soil much richer and better growing area for your garden.
Now as usual there are very little deserts left. They are usually the first thing to go after the meal. We can always save room for some delicious sweets such as apple pie with a little ice cream on top or a yummy slice of pumpkin pie with cool whip on top after a big dinner! I am never too full for the deserts!
