Wedding Makeup
It's the most important day of your life, the photographs will be gazed and cooed over adoringly for years to come. Probably as important as the rehearsal dinner or the writing of the vows, an essential commodity in avoiding unnecessary tears and tantrums on the all important wedding morning; the bridal makeup.
You may be armed with all good intentions of applying your own makeup on the day (with trembling hands and a somersaulting tummy). However, as a kind word from an old vintage bride like myself (complete with a wedding album to prove it) your wedding makeup needs serious consideration, especially if you are a daytime mascara and lip gloss wearing gal like me.
A makeup artist gives flexibility on the day and can cater to every budget, even applying the bridesmaids makeup or dressing their hair if your budget allows, with the added bliss of giving the busy bride-to-be some much needed relaxation while being pampered like a goddess. The makeup artist will usually suggest a makeup rehearsal before for big day, or as I lovingly call it, the all important dummy run.
From experience, the dummy run proved invaluable when I caught my readily made up reflection in the lounge mirror. While relaxing with good conversation and a cup of coffee, I was blissfully unaware of the amount of colour and foundation being applied and the fact that it was growing closer to beach bronzed beacon rather than the sophisticated English rose I had envisioned. The words healthy glow took on a whole new meaning as the reflection I caught in the mirror was unrecognisable, the young tanned faced woman staring back simply wasn't me with my pale and freckled features buried beneath a mountain of heavy blush.
Afraid of appearing as an orange faced beacon in a clashing white dress, I discussed my concerns with the makeup artist and found to my delight that within moments, the look was transformed once again to a more natural and sophisticated siren. The next time I looked in the mirror I was pleasantly surprised. The makeup was professional and pristine, and most important of all, flattering and complimentary to my features, something I could not have achieved alone.
Come the wedding morning, I lapped up the hour of pampering with fervour while enjoying a glass of much needed champagne. I felt every inch the princess as my makeup was professionally applied with careful skill and wonderful results. The waterproof mascara was a must (there wasn't a dry eye in the church - including the groom). I felt every inch the beautiful, glamorous bride as I floated gracefully down the aisle. To my relief, there wasn't any sign of an orange beacon and as for the groom, he was well and truly knocked off his feet.
