Ways not to Annoy Job Recruiters
From 3arf
When a person applies for a job, they will usually come into contact with a recruiter. This is a common practice and therefore the recruiter becomes a very important person in the hiring process. Due to their importance, the last thing you want to do is annoy them! There are a few simplerulesto follow in order to avoid being immediately taken off of the candidate list.
- Complete and current information. One of the single biggest mistakes a job seeker can make is to not have current information on their resume and application. Companies need current contact information like phone numbers, addresses and emergency contacts with current phone numbers. You have to realize that if your contact information is incorrect or outdated, that could hurt you if you are injured on the job down the road. Even more importantly, if your information is incorrect, how do you expect them to get a hold of you if you are being seriously considered for hire?
- Positive attitude. A job recruiter can assist you in climbing the ladder during the hiring process or they can recommend that you not be considered for the position. No matter what, it is always best to be upbeat and friendly to the recruiter. You will gain zero ground by being rude, obnoxious or demanding when speaking with the recruiter. Treat them with the polite respect you expect to be treated with. It is so much better to build a positive rapport with the recruiter than lose out on the job altogether by being a jerk.
- Light follow up. Never, never, never harass your recruiter by repeatedly calling to check on the status of your application. It does no good to call every few minutes or even several times a day. You are probably not the only applicant they are dealing with and when they have to take the time to answer numerous calls from you, you are taking up their valuable time. The other thing about frequent follow-up calls is that they make you look desperate and needy. Appearing attention-starved will not get you the job faster, in fact it could cost you the job. They might think if you are this much trouble now, you will be a problem on the job as well.
People get frustrated, nervous and even a little scared when they are waiting to hear back about their application status. This is perfectly understandable, but does not give one license to annoy the poor job recruiter until they wish they had never met you! Take a deep breath and relax, they will do what they can for you.
