Was to Celebrate Adopt a Cat Month
In America, June isAdopt-A-Cat month. This isn't a national holiday, but a promotion by several animal groups to help keep the issue of homeless cats in the public eye. Cat food maker 9-Lives has even trademarked the phrase "Adopt-A-Cat Month", but they are not sticklers to letting other groups like the ASPCA or local animal shelters use it.
And what better excuse for a party than to celebrate the saving of countless cats lives with Adopt A-Cat Month. Although cats are rumoured to have nine lives, they really only have one. The Humane League of the United States estimates that at least three million cats are put to sleep in shelters every year. The reason why June was picked because that's the timekittens are coming.
The best thing you can do to celebrate Adopt-A-Cat Month is to adopt a cat. But that's not always possible for cat lovers. But there are other ways you can celebrate.
Raise Money For Your Local Animal Shelter
There are many creative ways you can raise money for your local animal shelter to help the cats that are already there. You can hold a bake sale, charity auction, car wash or multi-home garage sale in order to raise money. Another way is to hold a head-shaving event, where people (especially men) with very long hair get sponsors if they shave it all off. This can be fun for an office party, a college or a local sporting event.
Every year, brave runners train to raise money for their favorite charities. If you are a runner, consider getting sponsors to give you a dollar per mile for the upcoming half-marathon. Now you not only can help cats, but also give yourself a powerful motivation to train for and finish your next race.
Gather Materials For Your Local Animal Shelter
Shelters don't just need money. They also need a lot of equipment, including cat crates, cat toys, litter boxes, litter, cat food and old towels to make any cage far more comfortable. In these tight economic times, getting people to part with their money is going to be hard. But getting them to part with something that maybe they have and don't need will be a lot easier.
Make A Cat Poster
This can be fun for kids as well as adults. The whole family can get in on this. This can be part of a school project or just something fun and colourful to have around the home. Just get a bunch of old newspapers or magazines that you don't want anymore and cut out all of the pictures of cats and kittens. Then, put it in a prominent place to enjoy. Be sure to recycle the newspapers and magazines.
