Warning Signs that your Career has Stalled
Do you feel as if your career may be stalling? Many people have that sinking feeling that they are not as far along as they could possibly be in their careers. While sometimes people are simply impatient, other times it could in fact be that your career is stalled. What are some of the warning signs that you are in a stalled career?
The first thing you should be looking out for is how long you have worked in your current job. Have you been in the same position for a year, five years, or even a decade? If so, you should consider thinking about ways win which you can improve your situation, or move on in your career path. Stagnation helps neither you or your employer.
Another way that you can tell if your career is stalled out is by the amount of advancement opportunities that you getting from your employer. If your employer really wants to see you move up and get involved, you will most likely end up getting chances to learn and grow. If your boss is giving those chances to others, it could be a sign that you are doomed to stagnation.
Look at how your employer treats you on a daily basis. You might have been the toast of the company just a year ago, but now you are simply ignored, or even criticized, more often. You might be getting poor hours and really poor assignments. This could be another sign that you have said or done something that the company didn’t like and won’t get you anywhere fast.
How do you feel about your career? You might have loved coming to work everyday, but now you simply see your career defined by the job you have now. You might feel like you have no hope of going anywhere, or maybe you don’t have the education required to advance, so you are resigned to where you are now. If you don’t feel any sense of pride, or see any payoff to your work, it could be a signed that you are stalling out.
A stalled career is nothing to be proud of. You spin your wheels doing a job that you don’t even like anymore, but you don’t want to lose that paycheck, You should want to move on and advance in your career, so keep in mind those signs that might be telling you that you are stuck in neutral career wise.
