From 3arf

Are you stuck in a dead-end job? Are you over-worked and under-paid?  You are not alone. A large number of people are working at jobs that they hate or that are toxic to their health. But, how do you know when to leave a stressful job? The following are some sure signs that it is time to quit work.

Hate to go to work

One of the first signs that it is time to quit a job is when you hate to go to work. If you get heart palpitations, headaches, or anxiety attacks as soon as you walk in the building, it is time to change jobs.

Difficult or manipulative boss

You love your job. But, your boss acts like a spawn from hell. You actually cringe when he or she walks into the room. Your boss plays a key role in your career success. Bosses critique your work. They decide if you will receive that raise you’ve been wanting. And, they have to approve your vacation time and your sick days. If you have a difficult or manipulative boss, it can make even the best job seem like a nightmare. So, what do you do? You pursue your career aspirations somewhere else with a supervisor who will appreciate your skills.

Negative/rude co-workers

Like a manipulative boss, negative co-workers can make a dream job into a nightmare. The constant gossiping, bickering, and backstabbing can become overwhelming. Some of the best strategies for dealing with thesenegative co-workersare ignoring them and giving them the same courtesy that you would like to receive. However, if their sarcasm and manipulative behavior makes you dread getting out of bed in the morning, it is time for a change.

Extremely toxic environment

Another warning sign that it is time to quit your job is when you work in an extremely toxic work environment. What is a toxic work environment? It is when you are given nearly impossible working conditions. Your work hours are extremely long. You are constantly harassed, and you have little or no control at work. What can you do? You can choose to stay in a bad situation or you can update your resume and find a better place to work.

Haven’t received a promotion in years

You have been working for the same company for several years and doing good work, but thepromotionsjust aren’t coming. It is time to make a change. You should be able to progress in any work situation. If there is no room for you to grow, move on to greener pastures.

Work is not recognized

Are you doing all the work, but it is being ignored?  Are your boss or your co-workers getting all the credit for your hard work? If the answer is yes and you have approached your supervisor but things have not changed, it is time to change jobs.

Interfering with your personal life

There is nothing wrong with going the extra mile to get ahead at your job. However, when you are required to work long hours and you are missing out on valuable family time, you need to do a priority check. Ask yourself which is more important - the job or your family.

Health in jeopardy

Too much stress at work can kill you, literally. Extreme or prolonged exposure to work-related stress can cause sleep disturbances, headaches, upset stomach, mood swings, heart palpitations, and heart disease. When your job is adversely affecting yourhealth, it is time to find a job that is less stressful.

Deciding whether or not to quit work can be difficult. However, heed the warning signs listed above.
