Volkswagen Golf 2010
Volkswagen have risen to become one of the front runners in the car industry. Whilst they have no supercar, to draw in the crowds of jealous onlookers, or a massively popular sports-car, they do make everyday cars better than most. Sedans, SUV’s and hatchbacks are the lifeblood of this German company. Bringing some redesigned models to the table in 2010, there is no reason why Volkswagen can’t carry their success into this new decade. The new Golf carries with it a heavy burden, with the massive success of the previous Golf generation’s laying on its shoulders. Unafraid of change, the new Golf comes with a new look. It is similar to its predecessor but has had some minor changes that are worthy enough to mention. The exterior of the Golf has changed a little bit. The car still looks similar and is recognisable as a Golf, but with a new low grille and that mean, “mono-brow`` between the headlamps, the car looks more modern and “cool” and far more expensive than it is. The interior is just what you would expect. Nothing extravagant or particularly attractive resides within, but the styling is simple, smart and very practical. You could be forgiven to assume that the drive will be boring because the Golf is a practical, everyday hatchback. However, this is not the case. Under the hood of this vehicle sits a 2.5 litre I-5 engine capable of around 170bhp. On a car so small this is a good number and makes the Golf a quick car indeed. A more fuel efficient diesel engine is an option and should produce around 140bhp.The Golf comes with front-wheel drive and can sit 5 passengers rather comfortably. The transmission comes in two different forms as one would expect. A five or six-speed manual is one option and a six-speed automatic is the other. The safety features are fantastic, with ABS, front and side airbags coming as standard along with both traction and stability control. Rear side airbags are an option. Fuel economy and price could be this car’s greatest highlights, which is quite an achievement considering how good the rest of the vehicle is. The Golf can get up to around 40mpg, and the price starts as low as 11,000 pounds. The new Golf is a superb every day and more than matches its predecessor. It still provides the excellent and surprisingly fun drive that the old one did and does so with a more modern and attractive chassis. The mileage and the price are fantastic, making this car true value for money. The speed is reasonable, but its main attraction is the aforementioned drive and its practicality. The old Golf was a brilliant car but somehow Volkswagen have improved it.
