Vehicle Buyers Guides

From 3arf

Opinions are like, well - you know the saying........ Everyone has one.

Edmunds.com..... Kelleybluebook.com..... Blackbook.com...... There are many directions a consumer may turn in order to find accurate information pertaining to a vehicle's value. The reference guides mentioned, as well as any others, are fine sources of information if they are taken in their proper context - They are merely GUIDES.

For the sake of argument, let's try a little experiment. Go into one of these web sites and enter the year, make and model of the vehicle that you wish to sell. Enter all of the requested information as accurately as you possibly can. Be truthful with the mileage and provide an unbiased assessment of the vehicle's condition. After these steps are taken, click on the "value" button and discover how much your vehicle is "worth".

Then, hit the print button and see if a check or any other form of payment for your vehicle is generated.

This "experiment" may be somewhat exaggerated but the premise is true. There are all sorts of outlets and sources that wish to provide you with a value that you should expect to receive for your vehicle. But, the truth of the matter is: They never actually offer to buy your vehicle for this amount.

As in any other supply-and-demand type business, the automotive industry is no different. The value of your vehicle is exactly as much as someone else is actually willing to pay you for it.

This is not intended to imply that a vehicle guide is not a useful tool to reference. A person utilizing such a guide must remember that any values provided by these 3rd party sources must be taken in their proper context.... A hypothetical response by a non-obligated organization.

Turn on the TV and what do you find? Everyone and their brother telling you that the economy is a disaster. The "Big 3" automakers are constantly begging the government for another bailout or contemplating bankruptcy or drastic reorganization of core productive practices and methods.

All of these factors have a significant bearing on the present and future values of almost everything, including the vehicle that you wish to sell or trade in.

It is imperative that you, the consumer, educate yourself by any means available. As long as you remain cognisant of the fact that opinions are indeed like personalities and the final expected value is ulimatelywhat another is willing to pay - Outside valuation sources can prove to be a useful tool to assist you in realizing a maximum anticipated return on an automotive investment.
