Using technology for getting together with loved ones at Thanksgiving
Families tend to move around quite often for one reason or another and have a very difficult time staying in one place for too long. This can be very challenging, especially for larger families. Over the years, families tend to get bigger and bigger with people having babies and it is not surprising or uncommon to hear of people who have young children who may have grandparents and maybe even great grandparents who live in a totally different country and the two parties have never met before because of the long distance and the cost of traveling these days.
Social Media has really helped to make some of these problems a little less painful and have made it so that as long as both parties have a computer with an adaptable camera and an internet connection that both parties can see each other and maybe even meet via the internet for the first time. This can be very special during the holiday season at Thanksgiving and Christmas time.In some cases this method of communication is better, not only because it may be cheaper than a long distance telephone call, but you can actually see the person that you are talking to if you have a camera hooked up to your computer and you can physically see the person that you are talking too. This can be great if the only picture that you may have sent your distant relatives is several years old and your child or children have changed quite a bit since the last photograph was taken. To get together with your distant relatives over Thanksgiving via social media, the few things that need to happen, are to make sure that you both have the same software likeSkypefor example installed on your computer and then you can e-mail the information to your distant relatives so that they know how to find you once they have installed the software onto their computer.
After you have the software installed, you can coordinate schedules via e-mail as to what day and time will work for all parties involved and that way everyone will be home to enjoy the time that you all will spend together chatting over the internet and catching up on things. This can be fun and very educational even for small children and then they can maybe even tell the story to their teacher and classmates at school about having the opportunity to talk with their distant relatives over the Thanksgiving break and where the distant relatives live and what they may have learned about them.
