Unique Easter Egg Hunts around the World
The Easter Egg Hunt is one of the most memorable traditions we have as children. And while it is always fun to participate in your local community or church’s annual festival, why not experience something a little bigger and even more fantastic? People all around the world celebrate Easter Day with festivals involving Easter Egg Hunts and other fun activities. Here are a few interesting and different hunts from all over the world that you may want to check out.
- Easter inside the Aillwee Cave, Ballyvaughan, Co., Clare, Ireland: How about hunting for eggs inside a prehistoric cave in Ireland? On the 12th and 13th of April, Aillwee cave offers an exciting Easter treasure hunt inside its caverns where you may just run into the Easter Bunny himself.
- The Great Peter Rabbit Easter Egg Hunt, Cumbria, England: What could be one of the largest egg hunts in the North of England, come out on April 8th and celebrate Easter on the 100 year anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s “Peter Rabbit.” A complex and exciting hunt involving maps, clues, and riddles guiding you through more than 6,000 square kilometers of park area, you will find eggs filled with wonderful prizes like week long vacations and free tickets to the World of Beatrix Potter Attraction.
- The Centre des Monuments Nationaux, Paris, France: Perhaps visiting Paris on Easter Sunday is more up your alley. In the midst of monuments such as the Champs-sur-Marne, Jossigny, Vincennes, the Chateau de Maisons-Laffitte, the national park of Saint-Cloud and the Villa Savoye in Poissy, children ages 5-12 and their families can hunt for chocolate eggs along a trail of clues and riddles enabling them to have some Easter fun as well as learning the history of the beautiful monuments.
- Around the United States: Of course, you may not be able to travel outside of the U.S. during the Easter break, so here are a few fun destinations closer to home.
◊The White House Easter Egg Roll: April 5th from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m., the White House and the Easter Bunny host an Easter Egg hunt on the White House lawn. This year’s theme is “Ready, Set, Go!” In the spirit of promoting health and wellness for children, events will include sports courts, cooking stations, live music, storytelling and, the traditional Easter egg rolling.
◊If you are in D.C., but want to try something different, check out theAfrican American Family Celebration at the National Zoo: Also on April 5th, the Zoo hosts an Easter event with live entertainment, food, crafts, an egg hunt, and lots and lots of fun.
◊Adults Only: No kids, but love all of the Easter festivities anyway? Why not enjoy theJefferson Barracks County Park Egg Hunt in St. Louis, Missouri? From 9-11 pm, March 26th and 27th, over 7,000 eggs will be hunted for by daring adults who are still kids at heart. An alcohol-free event, with many prizes available to be won; make sure you bring your flashlight for this unique and exciting Easter fun!
