As more and more dedicated employees find themselves without a job, many are finding that now is the perfect time to make a career change. For many years before this economic downturn, employees were seen to be loyal to their employers. Some have been in their jobs for twenty years or more. However, the company did not show the employee the same loyalty. After revenue fell or companies mismanaged money, almost ten percent of the population is now without a job.With such a high percentage of people seeking work, there is heavy competition and many of the unemployed are finding that jobs are not so easy to come by. Businesses are hesitating to open up new jobs, and the unemployed are searching frantically for anything that will bring an income into the home. Jobs that were once always there to fall back on, especially during the holidays, are no longer available. Retail outlets are just not hiring as many people for their holiday season because they are unsure how the consumer will react to this downward-spiraling economy. The few jobs that do open up have so many applicants that if you don't have prior experience in that field you may just be out of luck.With the economy in shambles, now is the perfect time to make your own way by starting a home-based business. You are in control of whether you work or not. You put in as many hours as you want or need to, and in return, you reap the benefits of your hard work.To get started in your own home-based business, you need to do some investigative work first. Make a list of the things you enjoy doing. The list can include hobbies, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, or anything you can think of that you wouldn't mind doing for several hours each day.Then, you will need to expand on your list. Take some keywords from your list and plug them into a search engine to see what kinds of home-based businesses you can find in the field you love. For example, if you like to travel, you would put"get paid to travel"in the search engine. Search as many different interests as you can and make a note of available businesses you may be interested in starting.After you have expanded on your list, now is the time to dig deeper into each offer. Look at the income you can expect from the business (if you know) and how much time you will need to invest to make it work.
