Trash the Dress

From 3arf

Because so much emphasis is put on the wedding dress – everything from the cost to the silhouette to the trim to the alterations gets much to-do – it can sometimes take on the importance of a monument for some brides. And, naturally, the dress is indeed an iconic part of the day as a whole, so brides often fret about finding the absolute perfect one. However, after the wedding is over, what is to be done with the dress? After all, they are rarely worn again by the same person for the same purpose! Here are a few suggestions for what can be done with that wedding gown after the big day:

DONATE IT

Many brides on a budget are turning to consignment and secondhand shops for their gowns. Contribute to another girl’s special day by donating or selling your dress to a shop for this purpose. Who knows? You may earn back some money by selling it, and donating something is always a good feeling. There are also plenty of websites, such as eBay and other online auctions, that allow brides to sell their used dresses.

GIVE IT TO A THEATRE

Local theatres are almost always looking for contributions, and any play that includes a wedding is taxing on a costumer – so do your part for the arts by donating your dress to your favorite theatre in town and your dress will live on in the limelight!

TRASH THE DRESS

Some brides enjoy a “trash the dress” session after the wedding – going somewhere like a river or pool and, well, trashing the dress. It may sound like blasphemy to some, but it can be a lot of fun for laidback brides, and the photographs that result from the session are usually hilarious!

MAKE A NEW DRESS

Some wedding dresses, especially those that are not extremely formal, can easily be altered to become chic cocktail dresses! Find a good tailor and create a brand-new fashion, possibly even dyeing it if the fabric allows…it will be perfect to wear for anniversary parties!

So you see, even though the dress is a near-sacred part of any bride’s wedding day, there is no reason to banish it to live in a box at the back of the closet until who-knows-when! There are all sorts of ways to use a wedding gown long after the vows have been said and the knot has been tied!
