Top 10 Fuel Efficient Cars 2009
Despite the fact that gas prices have recently declined, it is no secret that prices are still unstable, and have a high chance of returning to the high levels they were at. Because of this, it is important that we continue to conserve fuel as much as possible, to help break the addiction to foreign oil companies, at least until an alternative fuel is developed that has been perfected. If you are in the market for a new car, here are some of the most fuel efficient cars of 2009.
1.) Toyota Prius- This hatchback hybrid from Toyota will allow you to achieve around 48 MPG city/45 MPG highway. With fuel economy this high, that's almost double what a typical sedan gets. Of course, the Toyota Prius is a hybrid, and its often compared with regular gasoline vehicles.
2.) Honda Civic Hybrid- The Honda Civic hybrid is one of the most fuel efficient sedans on the market today. It offers around 40/45 mpg, depending on whether you're driving in the city or on the highway. Although the Civic is smaller than most family sedans, it can certainly work for a small family or for an individual.
3.) Smart ForTwo- The Smart Fortwo is a small car that seats two, designed by Mercedes-Benz. The car gets great fuel economy, but considering its size, I'd expect it to do better than it does. This car will get you 33/41 MPG.
4.) Nissan Altima Hybrid- This is a typical family sedan, although slightly more sporty than most family sedans. This Japanese made vehicle should provide you with reliability you need, and also still get you 35/33 MPG. This particular vehicle gets fewer mpg on the highway due to the hybrid technology working better at lower speeds.
5.) Ford Escape Hybrid- This is one of the most fuel efficient hybrid SUV's on the market. The Ford Escape Hybrid offers large amount of seating for a family, and also allows you to get better fuel economy than most sedans. The Ford Escape Hybrid will provide you with 34 MPG City, and 31 MPG highway. This also gets fewer MPG on the highway due to the hybrid technology.
6.) Toyota Camry Hybrid- Another typical family sedan, very popular among today's car buying crowd. Best known for its spectacular reliability, this car will also allow you to get a great amount of fuel economy, with its 33 MPG city, and 34 MPG highway.
7.) Volkswagen Jetta Diesel- This Volkswagen Jetta diesel allows users to get 30/41 MPG, depending on whether they are driving on the highway or in the city. The car does run on diesel fuel, which is slightly more expensive, but it is a nice sized car that can seat five so it's benefits may outweigh the fact it runs of diesel fuel, especially if you're a fan of Volkswagens.
8.) Toyota Yaris- This small size compact sedan from Toyota allows users to get great fuel economy, while still enjoying the quality of the Toyota. The Yaris will allow users to get 29/35 MPG. This fuel economy may increase slightly with the manual transmission version of the car.
9.) Honda Fit- This is similar to the Toyota Yaris, except its made by Honda. Honda also offers superior quality in their vehicles, and the Honda Fit also offers great fuel economy. The car gets around 29/35 MPG, and depending on the transmission you get, can increase. The sport automatic adds a few more MPG, and the manual transmission tends to get around the same.
10.)MINI Cooper- The MINI Cooper is similar to the other cars mentioned above, in both size and styling. The MINI Cooper can offer up to around 28/38 MPG.
These are some of the most fuel efficient cars of 2009. If you are in the market for a new car, this is what I would highly recommend, as it is important that we continue to monitor our use of gasoline. It is only with time that we can make the change from fuel efficient, to fuel free.
