Waking up in time for work takes a certain amount of self-discipline which most responsible adults should have acquired. Some people are just not morning people and for them, waking up on time for work is difficult. There are tips that can help those slow risers to become more accustomed to get down a good morning routine.

Get enough rest

Get yourself into a regular nightly routine that allows you to get a good nights sleep. For some people, this means to watch their caffeine and food intake after a certain time at night. Eating a large dinner too close to when you are trying to go to sleep can cause your sleep to be disrupted.

Exercising at night can also mess up your sleep patterns and make it harder to get up in the morning. Try to do your workout earlier or maybe even first thing in the morning. That is another way to get your body moving by scheduling an early morning workout.

Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Mom was right. Studies show that people who eat a high protein and fiber breakfast perform better at their jobs than people who rely on caffeine only. Getting into a routine of good eating habits will help you to get out of bed in time for work. Your body will be healthier and you will have more energy.

Prepare for tomorrow today

Don't put off tasks like picking out your work clothes until the morning and then cause yourself to rush around needlessly. Choose your outfit for the next day and that will be one less thing to do in the morning.

If you brown bag your lunch, put it together the night before. In the morning, having your lunch ready to go will give be one less thing to deal with.

Stress relief

If your job is high pressure, find the time to do things to counteract all the stress. Take a yoga class, read a book at night or find something to help you to relax after work. This can make a big difference in making it easier to get out of bed in the morning.

Get a checkup

If you wake up and feel like you didn't get enough sleep even though you went to bed early enough, you avoid caffeine or other stimulants at night and you are still groggy, you should see your doctor. There could be medical reasons why you are having difficulty in getting up in time for work. This could be anything from depression to a low thyroid. See your doctor for a checkup and tell him all your symptoms.

Alarms

Get an alarm that is annoying to you and put it in your bedroom where you will be forced to get out of bed in order to turn it off. Having an alarm on your bedside table that you can just delay by hitting the snooze button is not going to help you get out of bed. Once you have yourself trained to respond to your annoying alarm by getting out of bed, learn not to get back into bed. This is where self-discipline comes in. Remind yourself that you cannot be late for work for fear of repercussions at your job. It is going to take willpower to beat this but you can.

It may take time to train your body to get up in time for work. If you are motivated by the idea that you do not want to lose your job, you will find the discipline to train yourself to get out of bed in time for work.
