Sometimes the timing of your asking for a raise can make a big difference in the answer. You want to choose a time when your boss is in a good mood and feeling favorably to you. You may want to find a time when he or she is not at all busy. You do not want them to be focused on something else and to be stressed to begin with. You may want to make an appointment or ask that they come to see you at their convenience. Also, you may want to choose a time after something good has happened, especially if it was something that you did. For instance, if you are a salesperson and you just made a huge sale, then that might be a good time to ask them. You should obviously not ask him or her if something bad has happened or if they are laying off a lot of people because of the budget. You may feel like you need to wait a few days or even longer but if it will get you the answer you want, then it might be worth it.
