Tips for Teens to Start their own Summer Babysitting Business
Teenagers may want to start a summer babysitting business to get an early child development and appreciation course. This also comes in handy with getting to know your community and earning money. For the most part, there are many resources to start you just have to know where to look and what steps to take for making this wish come true.
The first step is finding funds - you can seek grants and or raise money through drives or personal sales; personally I would start by saving my allowance.
The second step is location - understand if you are caring for children an appropriate accommodation is needed and the best place would be to rent out a child care center or starting the business in your own home. Another approach would be partnering with friends and finding an ideal location between you ‘all.
Step three is supplies - you’ll need cribs or bedding, linen, tables and chairs, floor mats, toys and recreation (games), food and supplies, diaper care, and other essential needs. Grants may also come in handy for these items.
Step four is experience and certification - you will need to become CPR certified for adults and children, as well as having a developed list of reference(s) and experience to provide for the families.
Step five is research - you will need to research your areas laws for childcare, such as child to caretaker ratio, age limits, and zoning if necessary.
One undermined way to start is by offering your services to friends and family members early-on and building a reference on that. You may start at no charge or at a fee that will go directly to developing a more interesting summery business throughout your teenage years.
Once you have your portfolio ready with the childcare plans and statements of recommendation, talk with your parents in helping you bring this business to reality. They can really help with setting a foundation and bringing in clientele. All of these “chores” may seem overwhelming, difficult, or completely impossible, but really they are not that hard. All that really needs to be done is ask around for advice, especially your parent’s opinion, and work toward creating a safe, affordable environment.
If you are working as a team with friends, have the parents meet together with all of you and come up with some ideas and solutions on what would be best and ways of affording the business.
