A New Year is here. With it, comes the excitement of starting over. There are so many opportunities that will unfold in the months to come. This is the opportunity to make changes. It is the time to start anew. The most common way to bring in the New Year is to set aside some resolutions.

A resolution is something that you want to change. It is a goal that is important to you. Many people pick more than one. In some situations, they pick as many as twenty. Each individual person will have their own number of things they want to work on. It is best not to overload your list because you may later get overwhelmed with it. Only out as much on yourself as you think you can handle.

First, you will need to write down your goals on a sheet of paper. Beside each goal, decide if it is obtainable or a pipe dream. List the things you will need to do to achieve the goal listed. This will be your plan of action.

Big goals can often break down into smaller goals. Instead of trying to paint the complete picture, work on a section at a time. Be specific about what you want to improve on. It is easier not to generalize things. If you want to loose weight, pick a number of pounds you think you can actually loose. Once you master the first goal, you can always reset it.

Stick to it. Sometimes, it isn't enough to say you want to do things. You have to do them and stay at it to expect results. Set aside a certain time each day to work on your resolution. You may also want to find a resolution buddy. Find someone that will help you work on your goals. You can support each other and work together.

Do not set your expectations too high. You may set yourself up for a fall. Rather than setting ridiculous goals, pick things that you can actually work on.

You can improve on your goals later on. If you finish something on your list, you can always work on something else or expand on the first goal. It doesn't have to be New Year's day to set new resolutions.

If you do not succeed, that does not mean you have to quit. Just see things as a setback and pick up where you let off. Many people have to quit bad habits more than once before they are finished with them all together. Keep your head up and keep trying. Putting effort forth is often most important.
