Tips for Finding a Cool new Years Eve Party
Ah, the New Year's Eve party. You want to have a good time with your friends or significant other. You most certainly don't want to end up at some lame party or over-crowded, over-priced block party. But how do you ensure that you will find such a cool party?
1. Ask around. Find out what your friends, family, and co-workers are doing. You know who you want to ring in the new year with, and you know who you do not. Avoid going someplace where someone will be that you don't want to be around, if you can help it.
2. Search on-line for different celebrations and read reviews. This is especially helpful when trying to figure out if you want to go somewhere you're not as familiar with as you would like to be. What are people saying about it? If they say it's a hit, chances are that you will too.
3. Determine what type of evening you would like to have. Do you want to go to a block party? What sort of activities do you want to participate in? Would you rather watch a band or play games? Would you rather be indoors or outdoors? Discuss these things with those you would like to spend the evening with, and then look for parties that fit those criteria.
4. Search via local newspapers and magazines. Event information will be listed. Don't forget to take into account how you will get to and from your party destination, as well as how much money you would have to spend at each possible location. The more publicity an event has, the more people will have heard about it. But if you want to hang out somewhere low-key, you may want to avoid events that are over-hyped.
5. If you are going out of town, talk to locals. They often know of great places to go, including some that you otherwise wouldn't have heard about. Remember that your idea of cool may be different from someone else's, so ask lots of questions about why an event was so enjoyed.
6. Come prepared to interact with others around you, including those you don't know or don't know well. Don't come in a bad mood, and have an open mind. Think of various possible topics of conversation that you can have with those in attendance. Plan a couple jokes if you would like. If you are going to someone's house, bring a host/hostess gift. This can be something to be enjoyed at the party or by the host/hostess after the party. Ask for introductions. When introduced to someone, think of appropriate questions, and ask away.
7. Host a party. Invent your own fun. Get the word out, and get commitments from several friends. Do a themed party. If you are in charge of the atmosphere, you can make it suit the needs and wants you have, as well as give it appeal to your friends. Creativity and an open mind will help you come up with a night no one will forget!
