Tie Dye Birthday Ideas
You’re planning a birthday party. So how about a Tie Dye themed party. It is sure to be a great hit with kids or pre teens.
First things first, start with the activity. You can buy tie dying kits at most stores to make things easier. If you don’t want a kit, visit a craft store and pick up several dye colors separately. Make sure you choose a type that is appropriate for this activity. When in doubt, ask for help choosing. You can either buy several plain white t shirts in various sizes or require each guest to bring their own. It may be easier to have everyone bring one so they can get their size, however stress to them that it needs to be white. You may want to have extra on hand in case someone forgets.
You will want to have the activity area outside or on a large table covered in plastic. It may not be a bad idea to cover the floor also. Have everything you need readily available. Rubber bands, dyes, water, shirts and anything else required.
Aside from the activity, you will need cake. You can buy cup cakes at the supermarket that have a rainbow swirl frosting that looks like tie dye and will match well. If you want to make your own or are baking a cake, you will want to choose vibrant colors for the frosting. Spray frosting may make it easier to give a rainbow tie dye appearance.
No cake would be complete without ice cream to go with it. Choose Neapolitan or rainbow sherbet and you’ll please almost everyone. Another option would be rainbow swirl ice cream or superman both of which are colorful.
Snacks and food can be just about anything. Publix sells rainbow bread, but you have to order it. You can use this to make sandwiches or even finger sandwiches. Foods that are colorful will go over well. Any kind of finger food is bound to be popular. Another choice would be layered colored jello.
Serve drinks that are kid friendly and fun. Kool aid, fruit punch or juice boxes will be easy and the popular with the kids.
Visit a party store. Most of the time you can find coordinating decorations for any theme. They will likely have balloons that are multi colored or appear to be tie dyed and probably hippie themed party supplies that will go well with your party. If not stick with bright colors.
Plan appropriately. Tie Dyeing takes time and you will need to plan for that. Also don’t start blind. Have the kids all make a plan of what colors they want to use and what designs they want to try and have them practice how to create it first with out colors. Most kits come with instructions and ideas or you can look it up online or grab a book from the library. This will save you disappointment. Remind them that mixing too many colors together or failing to make separations will result in brown or black.
