The best Time to Order a Thanksgiving Turkey

From 3arf

The best time to order a Thanksgiving turkey is a week before Thanksgiving.  That way, you will have your pick of those choice birds at bargain prices. As Thanksgiving approaches, retailers of national grocery chains and/or wholesale food outlets are hard-pressed to get rid of all those surplus turkeys ordered up in advance in anticipation of potential sales. Consequently, visiting your favorite grocery store or wholesale food chain a week before Thanksgiving will permit you to choose which butterballed turkey would grace your dinner table for that special evening.

By waiting until this particular week before you actually purchase your turkey, you will be able to snap up one at bargain prices. Retailers often put their turkeys on sale a week before Thanksgiving Day so it's advisable to arrive at your local grocery store or wholesaler early so that you can have your pick of those frozen birds.

Additionally, frozen turkeys require about 24 hours to defrost so, waiting a week to purchase your turkey will give you ample time to keep it stored in a cool dry place in the refrigerator until you are ready to prepare it. On the day before Thanksgiving, your turkey is ready to be taken out of the fridge and prepared for that festive day.

Also, waiting a week before you purchase your turkey will enable you to choose not one but two or three if the price is right. Therefore, if you have a large brood that you are feeding on Thanksgiving Day, then it is safe to purchase those allotted amounts or even more if your family warrants it. That way, you would have enough butterballs to feed your family and each attending guest.

Finally, not only will waiting a week fit your pocketbook and/or wallet, but it will provide you with enough time to prepare those butterballs for that one most festive day of the year. That way, you will save a bundle in the amount of money you spend to purchase your turkeys. So remember waiting a week before you make your actual purchase will add dividends to not only your stomach but your wallet and/or pocketbook as well.

On a final note, Thanksgiving only comes once a year, so if you have scraped and scrimped all year then it naturally follows that you will want to splurge on that most significant day of the year. Buying your turkey at a knock down price will allow you to have extra money for that celebration. Have a happy Thanksgiving!
