The Possibility of a Promotion

From 3arf

Rumor has it that there is a possible promotion for someone at your place of employment. Only one person is going to get that career promotion. It could be you!

First, can you verify that rumor?

Instead of beating around the bush, become pro-active and find out for sure. It may be just a rumor, but maybe not. Your employer needs to know that you are interested in advancing your career. Speak directly to him or her, immediately. Make a serious inquiry about this opportunity, or others, within your organization. When a promotion is realistic, place an application.

Promotionaccording to dictionaryreference.com suggests “advancement in rank or position”. It also contains an element of “encouragement”.

Do you qualify for a promotion?

You may need further upgrading or training to qualify for a promotion within your organization. Find out the level of qualification your employer is seeking in a candidate for a promotion. Take it seriously and prepare for it, as necessary.

Consider these other key elements when seeking a promotion.

Your degree of professionalism:

Employees who demonstrate consistent professionalism in terms of work ethics, interpersonal relationships, appearance and general comportment are the most likely to receive promotions.

Your attitude towards your employer, other employees and your employment:

Your employer can tell a lot about you and your suitability for promotion by your attitude towards him or her, as well as other employees. Do you maintain enthusiasm and excitement with respect to your employer, others and your work?  If you do, you could prove to be a valuable asset to the organization, on a higher level.

Your work experience, education and training:

While your work experience, education and training are always important with respect to a promotion, is it really working for you, your employer and for the organization?  Both you and your employer will recognize whether it is nor not. Avoid becoming ‘stuck in a rut’ and seek advanced skills, particularly before boredom sets in on your current level of employment.

Your ability to cope with stress:

Promotions often involve higher levels of stress and if you are a person who copes well with stress, you are likely to be someone acknowledged in terms of being a possible candidate for a promotion. Remember that awards and bonuses often accompany promotions, as do higher work demands.

Your work ethics:

Your work ethics should demonstrate a positive role in the organization you work for and if they do, you are likely to be regarded as a good candidate for a promotion. Promotions are important to employers, so you should not take one lightly. Let your employer know that you intend to show your appreciation for it, if you receive it.

As an employee seeking a promotion, you may be able to enhance your employment status by ‘bringing extra something to the table’. Have you learned something that will help to increase the productivity of your organization?

Your personality:

Last of all, are you a positive, constructive person who is able to motivate others? The ability to motivate others is at the heart of many promotions.

Go for a realistic promotion wholeheartedly and you just may get it!
