The Meaning of different Rose Colors

From 3arf

Flowers make perfect gifts, especially when stuck for ideas, whether they are for a person you don't know very well, or someone who seems to have everything, and roses are often the most popular choice of flower. However, the different colours of roses have various meanings, so your choice may be based on the message that you want to convey.

Red roses symbolise love and are mostly given on Valentine's Day as well as birthdays and during marriage proposals. They imply romantic love, passionate love and everlasting love; put simply, red roses are the perfect way to say I love you'.

Pink roses have a different meaning depending on the shade. Dark pink roses mark gratitude and appreciation. Give deep pink as a lovely way of saying thank you'. Light pink shades imply sympathy. It's a nice idea to send these to someone who has suffered a misfortune.

White roses are an indication of loyalty, sincerity, purity and spiritual love. By giving white roses you are telling the recipient that you are worthy of their love. These are frequently used for bridal bouquets, and interestingly, in Scotland, white roses are an indication of early marriage.

Yellow roses were symbolic of jealousy in Victorian times, but are now used as a means of an apology and/or asking for forgiveness. Give yellow roses to say you're sorry. Yellow roses are also presented during times of illness to convey the message 'get well'.

Orange roses signify enthusiasm, excitement, fascination and desire. Orange roses can be given as a way of saying 'well done, I'm proud of you'. However, beware; these are sometimes exchanged as gifts between secret lovers.

Lavender/lilac roses symbolise enchantment and love at first sight. Bestow these upon the one you secretly admire as a wonderful gesture in revealing your desire.

Blue roses are artificially cultivated and they indicate the impossible or the unattainable. Like orange roses, these are a token of secret love.

Black roses, like blue roses, do not grow naturally. The black rose is symbolic of death. To give this does not necessarily mean that you wish the person dead, but that you desire the death of a situation. Black roses can portray the meaning that you can no longer tolerate your current circumstances. The black rose also means goodbye. However, if you really want to give roses as a way of saying goodbye, just so as there is no confusion, you can always send dead roses,or just snap the heads off and send the thorns; speaks for itself, don't you think?

Colours combined also have their own meaning. Combinations of red and white roses are symbolic of unity; a great gift to seal a new partnership.White and yellow imply peace and harmony, whilst red and yellow together, call for a celebration.

So now we have the colours sorted out, but how many should be sent? Numbers of roses given also have a special meaning.
