The Latest Jag
British cars have few rivals in the looks department! Since Ford bought Jag back in the early 90's (possibly late 80's, don't quote me on it), it has been downhill for the cat ever since. First they tried to boost up sales with the "X-type." What is it?: "a car, a train, the reincarnation of the Tempo perhaps?"...give me a break! Then Ford stepped up to the plate again with the "S" type: A redesigned Lincoln, that's all. The "S" type actually looked quite good, but it still felt short! Not because it was a Lincoln, since Lincoln's are nice cars, looks and all.... The problem was, its odd shape didn't do it for many "Jag" fans...but now: "the XF has made its debut.
The XF has Lincoln and Volvo pedigrees, since Ford owns them all, or rather did. A company in India has recently purchased Jag! How is that for "poetic justice." The Hindus were practically slaves of the Brits a long time ago, now they have purchased one of England's prestigious car brands!
The XF looks quite good, a poignant point: a V8 is now standard, and only costs a few more dead presidents than the previous "S" type; which only had a standard V6. You can actually get this car for around $50,000., not bad at all! Trunk size is very spacious, so is the interior room. Big improvement from the "recently deceased S type." Just think, you're getting a Jag for around the same price you would any other "plebeian" product. But before you start thinking you're "Tony Blair," there are "cons" to this car as well.
Jaguars have a horrible dependability problems, actually: most British cars do. True, they look fantastic: from the Rover to the Bentley, but the problem is: were as you're getting a "Jag," for around $50,000., you don't get much. True you get looks, name, luxury, etc. But you need to "take a ride" on the options list; before you can comparably equip this car like you would other similar cars. When it's all said and done; to get this baby comparably equipped like you would others in this price range: the price jumps up to around $60,000-$65,000. So the question to ask yourself is: is this car worth it?
Possibly so: Ford has actually made due on this car. The "Jag's" of old, are no more. Ford has spent millions and millions of dollars attempting to fix/improve Jag's reliability problems since it purchased the brand approximately twenty years ago or so. The result has been: not bad! Both Jag's and Rovers' (A Rover is to the Jag, what the Audi is to the Porsche!), are built better today than they were before Ford bought both brands, and decided to improve on them. Actually, even though the "X" type has become something of a bad "punch line" for Jag connoisseurs, its dependability is quite good. I think the XF will be an improvement as well, and will possibly boost up Jaguar's needed sales.
