The Biggest Celebration ever

From 3arf

In 1904, thousands of people gathered inTimes Squareto celebrate the induction of the New Year. When this was done, it created a tradition that has lasted over 100 years; the heralded New Years Eve celebration in Times Square. Every American has seen it on television, because it is celebrated nationally, and it’s among the most famous places to ring in the New Year, and it is where the ball drops to bring in the next year. Theyve seen the throngs of people swaying with the countdown seconds before midnight, and they've seen the ton (literally) of confetti that falls like rain upon the revelers, and they have watched as the famedWaterford Crystal Ballslowly descends from the top of One Times Square. It's a tradition as celebratory as the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade, and to be a part of it is something that many people in the United States (and others) wish for. To do this, though, it takes some great planning, plenty of money, and thinking in advance. For, New York City is definitely the place to be, but since it is so populated by natives and tourists, you must claim your spot months in advance.

~Plan

If you're dreaming of celebrating the New Year in New York City, you must plan ahead. This means that you should make hotel and restaurant reservations far in advance of the big event. However you cannot book them too long ahead of time, as most hotels only let you book so far ahead, which is usually just a few months. This means you probably want a book your hotel near the end of summer the beginning of fall. You will also want to get yourplane ticketsin advance, so that you can ensure that you get there, and that you have a place to stay while you are there for the big event.

~Get a good hotel

Of course you want a hotel that is near Times Square, but if you want quiet when you're ready to go to bed after the celebration is over, you'll want one further away. If you've been to New York before you most likely have a certain hotel that you like to stay at. If you have not, there are plenty of hotels close enough to Times Square that you don't have to stay in one of the few that actually hover over the streets where you will be celebrating. One of the best hotels in Times Square is theMarriott Marquis.

~Get there early

It doesn’t matter if you will need to use bathroom facilities whilst you wait for the big moment when it hits midnight. You want to get there early and set up far in advance. If you’re there early enough, you can sit on thebleacherswhich will allow you to see a lot of the action, but from afar. But if you have other folks with you, you can wander around to other areas, provided that you don’t mind shuffling through such a thick crowd of people.

~Mind your P’s and Q’s

If you want to drink, you have to be very careful. There is apolice stationright in Times Square and you are not allowed to have alcohol out on the public streets. If you want that you have to go to New Orleans. So, if you are drinking you might want to make sure that nobody knows, and don’t make it obvious. You don’t want to get arrested on the New Year do you? That’s not exactly how anyone would want to start off the new year or end the old one.

All in all you should be safe. There will be thousands of people in Times Square from all across the globe, and you don’t want to be offensive to anyone else. You don’t know how other cultures act towards the event or if you may offend someone else with your words or your actions. Also, it’s a good idea to book a hotel that is right there in case you do need to use the bathroom and hotels are guarding that. You’ll want proof that you are staying there. Also, it’s quicker than walking down the street to your hotel, especially in that crowd. Spending New Years in Times Square could be a momentous occasion—but it could also be disastrous so choose what you want to do accordingly.
