Take your first Step to a new Life
A canceled wedding is more than just an emotional loss. There are financial commitments, lots of questions, and work that needs to be done just to get chaos under control. And the truth is, it may just be the biggest blessing of all time, but that knowledge only comes with time and hind sight. If both parties are not sure and fully committed to a life time together, canceling the wedding is the best option.Out of respect for the families of the couples involved the couple should remain civil and mature enough to tell them in person about the decision. This will keep tempers in check and make the transition a little easier for everyone. They don’t need to know all the details at this point. Just keep it short and tell them there will be no wedding and the two of you are working out the details and cancellations.Split the costs. It really does not matter who or why the wedding is being canceled. The couple, not the parents, should be financially responsible. It is not anyone elses’ choice or responsibility, so do the right thing together.Feel free to grieve. Canceling a wedding for any reason is a loss and grieving helps the soul deal with loss. Remember the five stages of grieving.1. Denial2. Anger3. Bargaining4. Depression5. AcceptanceThese steps of grieving can be just as strong for an emotional loss as a loss of life. Once you can label a situation it seems a bit easier to handle. It's needn't be a long process for something like a canceled wedding, but you always know when you get to acceptance life takes a turn.Use the time to make life changes that you have always wanted to do, but just have not had the courage or even the time. Take a class. Go on a vacation. Write a book. It is time to focus on you and your new goals. Focus on the future. Yesterday is gone. Today is what is important.Forgive with no malice. Forgive everyone involved and really leave that emotional baggage behind.Closing the door on one wedding opens up a world of opportunities and eventually you will be ready to jump into those new chances. Love is not stagnant, it changes and grows and comes in many forms. You will find love again and although it will never be the same it will always be sweet.
