Suv Restrictions a no – No

From 3arf

I agree we should conserve energy any way we can. Considering the outrageous price of fuel we need to keep it to a minimum. With that being said, there are no reasons to get the government involved in restricting our SUVS. There are some vehicles that get better mileage than others, but I think it is a preference of what we need or want to drive. Whether one wants luxury, convenience, eye candy, good gas mileage, room for occupants, cargo or status, determines what we drive, whether it be a foreign sports car, limo, farm truck, van or SUV.I prefer to drive a SUV which gets 18 to 20 miles a gallon, 23 to 25 for highway miles on a trip. It is much better than some small sports cars, or some compact cars. Even for one person, I don't think the gas is excessive, compared to some other vehicles. I usually drive kids to the park, reunions, school functions, and all three seats are full. If not for my SUV, many times we would have to drive 2 cars to get to our destination. I am actually saving oil, gas, and causing less pollution by driving a SUV, as opposed to someone else having to help drive some of the kids. I also use my SUV to get to work when it snows. Many times my friends and co-workers can't get out to get to work. I agree with the government trying to help produce vehicles that can run on electricity or some other form of energy, than gas or diesel.

I really don't know what the difference is between vans and SUVs for restrictions. Is it just because the SUV is a four wheel drive? I'm not sure I know the logic in the thinking. I feel the government should spend their time trying to find a way to get the prices down on the fuel instead of restricting what people are allowed to buy or drive. What will be next? Not allowing you to drive unless all seats are occupied? Having to cancel vacations if not approved by the government? Having to get permission from the government to buy gas, or maybe get a certain allotment of fuel each month. Maybe we won't be able to have cookouts at home, without restrictions. Perhaps, we will have to have more burgers on the grill before we are allowed to fire it up, or cook them less time to save fuel. I know we have a problem, but don't think the government can solve it with restrictions on SUVS or any other vehicles that are being sold on the market for consumers to love or hate, drive or follow down the road.
