Stress Awareness Month Activities
Since 1992 theHealth Resource Networkhas held National Stress Awareness Day on April 16. The purpose of the day is to make people more knowledgeable about stress and ways to reduce it. The month is also given the title of Stress Awareness Month. With this in mind there are ways to help people look at the stress in their lives and how to lessen the affects of this stress on their lives.
First things first
One of the first things to do to help alleviate stress is to prioritize. Lives are filled with activities, appointments and other demands on time. The secret to getting through the day, without stress adding up, is to prioritize the day. Place the activities that need to be accomplished first at the top of the list of items to be done. The ones that do not have a deadline can be placed at the bottom, if these items are not done on the current day, they can be carried over to the next day. As long as the items at the top of the list are done, the day is considered a success. Do not worry about what could not be done. There is always tomorrow.
Day off
National Stress Awareness Day is a perfect time to avoid lists and stress, so take the day and enjoy the family. If there are places to go to be away from the children for a little while, hire a babysitter. The children will have fun with another person, while rest is being felt by the parent. If the sixteenth falls on a weekend, a weekend trip, as a family, could be just the break that is right. It does not need to be far, just an escape where a peaceful day can be experienced.
Hobbies
April is an ideal time to pick up a long-lost hobby. Perhaps woodworking, gardening, reading, or knitting are things that used to be done, but have been forgotten. Find something that is enjoyable, not stressful, and take the time to do it. The stress that is normally found in life, will disappear as this outlet is used.
Stay home
It seems like the list of errands to be done take all week to complete. There are the trips to the grocery, work, and children’s activities and on and on. On one day, relax and do nothing. Make sure before the day is here to stoke up the refrigerator with foods that do not require cooking to eat. Watch some laid-back movies. Dress in the clothes that are the most comfortable. Lounge around all day, either in bed or in a recliner. In other words, be lazy and calm for one day. And do not stress.
Many of these things can be done more than once a year. In fact, once the peaceful feeling is experienced when stress is not allowed to take over the body, these stress-less days will become a regular part of a routine.
