Staff Writers Dealing with Politics
There are many times in life that we all have had to help someone along in life. However doing it all the time at work with your fellow employees is not always fun. You should not have to do extra work in order to keep up the slack when it comes to you and other employees that you are working with. You should be able to keep yourself busy with your own work and others should do the same with their own work. Coping with fellow employees that do not pull their own weight can be very frustrating and stressful to say the least.
When you are dealing with the fact that you have to work with someone that is not doing his or her job, you may feel overwhelmed and irritated at times. Why should you have to do your own work plus do theirs as well? This is not going to be fair for you and the other employees that work hard to accomplish their own goals and work well on their own. You are earning your paycheck so why is that person getting one for free? This is the question that you may want to ask your supervisor or manager. Do not be afraid to speak up and let others know what is going on.
I would not recommend talking about the people that do not pull their own weight behind their back. You should not discuss them with the other employees. What you can first try is to sit down with the slacking employee and tell them what you feel. You should explain to them that you believe they are not keeping up with their share of the workload and something has to change. Sometimes this is all the person will need before they change their attitude. However there are other cases when you are only going to make them mad and they will slack off even more. It is not always easy to get through to all types of people.
If you are not getting anywhere by talking to the person one on one, you may have to go directly to a manager or supervisor. This may be the only way that you get anything accomplished. You might have to just tell them all that are bothering you so that it can be taken care of. You should not have to go through and do double work while someone is enjoying a free ride. You may not want to hurt anyone's feelings but you are doing the right thing. In the end you will feel better and less stressed about the situation.
You may want to take the supervisor aside and discuss the problems rather than tell them in a staff meeting. You need to make sure that you are both prepared and have all the right information that you need to make sure that this problem is taken care of with the right procedures.
You have to remember to keep your cool. Sometimes people get very upset when they see that someone else is not doing all that they should to help you out at work. You should not scream or threaten anyone at anytime. This is only going to add stress to the entire situation. You have to breath deeply and keep contained. It is not worth it to anyone nor will it help the problem if you lose your temper. You are going to be the better person if you remember to stay calm and deal with a lazy worker in the correct way so that it is documented and it is taken care of as soon as possible so that you can go on with your own work and be more productive as well.
