Spooky and Tricky Makeup Ideas for a Halloween

From 3arf

Well-applied makeup is key for the best Halloween costumes. It can be overwhelming to try to copy a professional makeup job, but it’s really not that hard with a few tricks up your sleeve.

Before you start remember, more is more. Glob on the makeup. Whether you’re going as a gypsy or a murder victim, pile it on. The more makeup you have the more dramatic your look. Plus, you’re likely going somewhere dark where a light coat of makeup won’t be visible.Fake blood:Mix 2-1/2 tablespoons water, 60 drops of red food coloring,15 drops yellow food coloring, 3 drops blue food coloring (adjust color to achieve your desired color). Slowly add 5-1/2 tablespoons of corn syrup. The mixture will be thick but can be easily smeared on your body and clothing (note: this will stain clothing).Fake bruises:Eye shadow can create a great bruise. Mix deep blue and grey eye shadow to create a dark bruise. Mix green and gold or yellow around the edges. Smudge the brush for the look you want. When you’re done, mist with hairspray to help the makeup hold.Homemade face paint:Make face paint with common kitchen ingredients. Mix 2 tsp of white shortening, 5 tsp of corn starch and 1 tsp white all purpose flour. If desired, mix in a few drops of  glycerin for a creamier consistency. Add food coloring a drop at a time for different colors. This should give you enough to cover a child’s entire face. Apply by stroking in one even direction. This paint is easy to remove with baby oil.To look old:Even if you don’t have wrinkles, you can look old by following the lines on your face. Start with a thick layer of foundation all over your face and neck. Squint your eyes to bring out your face’s wrinkles patterns. With your eyes still squinted, brush make-up that’s lighter than your natural skin-tone. Next, relax your eyes. Using brown eyeliner, trace the creases. Repeat this technique to create wrinkles around your lips. Finish the look by darkening your cheeks for a sunken look, and dusting baby powder in your hair.

Vampire makeup:A vampire look is simple. Cover your entire face and neck with white makeup. Draw on black eyebrows and drip fake blood at the corner of your mouth. When your hair is wet, rub a generous amount of gel through it and comb your hair back. Finish the look with a pair of fangs.Witch makeup:Transform yourself into a witch by painting your entire face green and using black lipstick on your lips. Glue a peppercorn to your nose for a fake wart. Tease your hair and to make it look wild and tangled, and finish off with a few plastic spiders.
