Small Gifts for your Significant other

From 3arf

Everyone knows how to spend a fortune on a gift for their significant other, there is no real secret in that.  But expensive gifts are sometimes best held back for later in the relationship to avoid awkward situations of "you owe me now," and sometimes, the giver simply cannot afford an expensive gift.  This is where the real talent lies, giving little gifts that will be stored like magical talismans of each others affections.  These are the gifts that will be treasured and adored, secreted from one home to the next without, perhaps, anyone being the wiser of their meaning.

Couples in love are often a little childlike, finding wonder in the simple things around them.  This is why one will impulsively pick a wildflower and present it to the other or find heretofore unseen beauty in a humble sea shell or rock and likewise, proudly bestow it to his or her partner much like a cat presents a mouse to a beloved owner.  Even beer caps and soda bottles can take on deep symbolic meaning if they are handled by both partners during an intense and important "new relationship" conversation.  A savvy partner can save all these little keystones and collect them in a nice box, complete with a love letter.  Some of the keepsakes, no matter how impermanent they may seem, can even be engraved and others can be easily turned into unique, even if unattractive pendants or keychain.

Another wonderful place to find inexpensive but romantic little relics of a couple's love is at an antique store.  Look for small objects, findings, genuinely antique buttons, skeleton keys, arrowheads, anything you think your significant other might be able to hold in the palm of his or her hand and treasure as they think about their other half.  Tactile sensations always seem important when shopping for old things, does it have a good warm feeling in the hand?  Does it bring pleasant connotations? If no suitable antique bauble can be found, there are other answers.  Some cities offer rock shops or have gift stores with little bags of polished rocks, if not, they can easily be found online.  Holding a lovely, smooth semiprecious stone is the next best thing (almost) to having a loved one give you jewelry, especially if they cannot afford it.

In the end, if there must be an end, the box of mementos will be like a treasure chest and read like a true love story.  Can money buy that?
