People dream about getting rich. Commuters travelling, on the 7.15am train to London Waterloo and another day’s drudgery in the City, housewives ironing yet another shirt, and those wondering how they are going to pay the bills, when there is so much month left at the end of the money. Is it actually possible to get rich without working? Most ways of getting rich involve some work, but here are a few ideas.
Marry into money, people do it all the time, find a billionaire, preferably an old one, and make him fall in love, or lust with you. To find a billionaire, or a billionairess, you have to make sure that you go to the places where the very rich play.
Inherit money from a rich relative. If you know that you have a very rich relative, take an interest in them. It might be worth a few years fetching and carrying for your relative, to get a large mention in their will.
Have the good fortune to own a little piece of land, one that is necessary for the access to a new housing development, or supermarket. A little strip of land in such a location can be extremely lucrative, and you can often name your price and the developers or supermarket will pay.
Find gold, precious minerals, or oil in your back garden. It is not as ludicrous as it sounds and has actually happened to a few lucky people.
Play the stock, shares, or commodities markets. If you know what you are doing, you can make huge amounts of money playing the markets. You could corner the World market in widgets. You can even bet on which companies might fail, and that makes you powerful enough to bring the World’s economy down around everyone’s ears. In this regard, you could also be a banker, in banking they pay you bonuses even when you fail, and the government saves your job (because they must) by bailing your industry out. You might have to do a little work in banking, initially, but the rewards are worth it, once you get up into the higher echelons of the banking world.
If you are a good pontoon, poker or bridge player, you could play for money. This is not strictly work in the purest sense, since one plays cards. Other games you could play for money include snooker, billiards and darts.
Buy the lucky lottery ticket and win big money. Many people buy a ticket every week, with the dream of winning the jackpot but, for the most part, these are merely fond hopes. Yet someone has to win the jackpot, some say it will not change their lives and others try to spend their winnings as quickly as they can.
All these ideas are worth a try and they are all legal actions in the United Kingdom. However, the only real, and the most satisfying, way to get rich is to work hard for it. It is nice to dream, but you should not let dreams blind you to the opportunities in real life to improve yourself, advance in your career and be the best that you can be at what you do. You could always find a career, which is work to others but feels like play to you. Dreams though, when they provide a necessary, but temporary, escape from the daily grind, are harmless fun and just may lead you to hit on a real get rich scheme.
