Selecting Spring Bridesmaid Dresses

From 3arf

Spring is a lovely time of year for a wedding, and brides that get married in the spring have a range of bridesmaid dresses to select from.  There are several practical considerations when selecting spring bridesmaid dresses to maximize comfort and elegance on your special day.

  • Consider outdoor and indoor temperatures.  When people think of spring, they often think of outdoor picnics and warmer temperatures.  The fact is that temperatures are still quite low in many areas, and choosing dresses that are strapless or have tank or spaghetti straps will result in extreme bridesmaid discomfort.   If brides really like a dress that is only available in a halter or sleeveless style, consider finding a complementary short jacket to add extra warmth in cold areas.  Select a heavier fabric if needed and limit outdoor waiting time for bridesmaids.  If you’re lucky enough to live in a warmer climate, bring sunscreen to cover pale skin.
  • Don’t limit yourself to traditional spring colors.  Gone are the days in which springtime bridesmaid dresses have to be pastel.  While seasonal trends dictate the dress colors that are available in the spring, bridesmaid dresses can range from earth tones to vivid orange or turquoise.  Some brides still prefer a traditional pastel color palette.  To update this look, select vibrant flowers for an unexpected pop of color.  It’s also fun to choose dresses in several shades of one color to complement bridesmaid skin tone and features.
  • Select dresses that can dovetail into the upcoming party season.  No bridesmaid wants to pay for a dress that she can’t wear again.  It is a thoughtful gesture to choose a dress that bridesmaids can easily wear to spring and summer formal parties or other weddings.  Spring bridesmaid dresses are typically less formal than those for autumn and winter weddings, so choosing a dress that can segue into the next few seasons isn’t as challenging.
  • Consider spring floral choices.  Daisies, tulips, roses, and peonies are just some of the flowers to select for spring floral bouquets.  If you’re set on the kind of flower you like, take photos of the flower to the dress shop and select complementary fabric colors.

The key to selecting spring bridesmaid dresses is to consider the comfort of bridesmaids with regards to temperature and to not limit your color selection just because it’s spring.  Many brides love shopping for and selecting bridesmaid dresses for their spring wedding because the dresses are fresh and fun, and can easily be worn in summer months.
