No one can lay you off again if you start your own business! Unless one decides that they want to lay themselves off, which would be bizarre, then starting your own business means protection from layoffs, unless your business fails. But that is part of the risk of starting and running your own business. If it was easy, everyone would do it. The fact is that running your own business means that your destiny is in your own hands. Work hard, and see the benefits. Nothing is watered down when you own your own business. There is a direct correlation to working hard and getting the benefits of that work.
You can design your own work schedule. Of course, the business will dictate when the hours of attendance are necessary, but basically the owner of the business gets to decide when he or she wants to work. What could be better than that? There is no one to answer to except yourself in this department, and one can be as late to work as they want. But as long as things are "ship-shape", then the hours of work are up to the business owner.
You'll never have to answer to anybody except yourself! How great is that? That is a dream for many folks, but there is a flip-side to this dream, and that is that most business owners work harder than people that work for others. The responsibility of owning your own business demands a tremendous amount of input from the business owner, and failure is always lurking around the corner if the business doesn't get the attention it deserves.
