Reasons for Quitting a Job
Every person has their own idea about what makes an ideal workplace. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a perfect world and not all workplaces are perfect. Even with a fluctuating and uncertain economy, not everyone is willing to stay at a workplace that makes them uncomfortable and doesn’t meet their needs. Here are some potential reasons people may want to quit a job:
Money
No person will ever say that they make too much money! Unfortunately, many people feel that they do not make enough money to meet their needs. If a job is not helping someone earn enough money to take care of themselves and their dependents, it makes no sense to remain at that workplace. When there is not enough money flowing in from a job then it is time to leave and look for a different job.
Management
Some bosses are nice to work for but others are very difficult and dictatorial. Working under the management of someone who makes stressful demands on your time can make a work environment more tense than it needs to be. Some people are so stressed out from working with demanding bosses that their physical and mental health is negatively affected. No job is worth feeling unhealthy and quitting is sometimes the best solution.
Co-workers
Some people dislike working with a lot of their co-workers for many good reasons. Co-workers can be very competitive and try to undermine the work and efforts of other employees in order to climb the corporate ladder. In addition to being competitive and conniving, some co-workers can be very rude to each other and think nothing about spreading harmful gossip about their co-workers around the workplace. It is easier said than done to simply “ignore” co-workers who are being difficult. Some people reach the end of their rope and choose to leave their workplaces instead of being bullied, harassed and intimidated by co-workers who they don’t get along with.
Distance and Safety
With the rising cost of gasoline prices, many adults want to reduce their commute to work so they can save time as well as save money on gas. When opportunities become available to work in a location that is closer to home for a company that pays a suitable salary, many people will pursue those opportunities. Some jobs like police and firefighter work are high risk. If someone feels that they can no longer handle working in a high risk environment, they should put their health first and pursue a different career.
Working can be a fun and fulfilling experience, especially if the workplace is a good place to be at. Quitting your job does not mean that you are a quitter or a failure; there is nothing wrong with wanting to find another job to help you create a different life for yourself. If you are considering quitting your job, try to have another job lined up to replace the job you are trying to leave.
