Peace Love Thankful how to Make Christmas Magical again
Each year around the holiday season, there is a growing resentment towards Christmas. Whether it’s because of the religious history behind it, the overbearing commercialization of the big day or the enormous amounts of cash that have to be dropped, the disdain for Santa Claus and Christmas has become a fact of life.
A new survey found that many Americans feel Christmas is so stressful thatclose to half would rather opt outof celebrating that time of the year. With polls suggesting people will spend on average anywhere from$700 to $1,700, it’s rather understandable.
Is Christmas just about spending money you don’t have on gifts others may not want? Of course not. It’s a time to reflect and be thankful for everything you have, cherish everyone that’s in your life and love the season of egg nog, Christmas carols, a winter wonderland and classic films. This is what Christmas is all about.
Unfortunately, individuals feel compelled to shop and have forgotten about the true meaning of Christmas (forget Christianity for a moment). This is part of the reason why it is difficult to make Christmas a magical season.
How do we do it? It’s simple: ask Santa Claus for absolutely nothing this year.
Will it be difficult for children to comprehend that Santa Claus cannot afford giftgiving this year because of theeconomyor out of downright protest? Indeed, but soon your son and/or daughter will start to be grateful of what he or she already has: a family, a roof over his or her head and clothes on his or her back.
The Christmas season gives us the chance to catch up with loved ones, enjoy some free time, relish in some relaxation, spend time with the family and create magical moments. Once Americans, Canadians, Britons and everyone else start undergoing these glorious tasks then it will be magical again.
Forget the shopping mall. Leave the credit card at home. Throw out your wish list. Instead, take the family out for a nice long walk in your local winter wonderland, grab a few bucks for hot beverages and have a laugh – does it reallycost $271to see your child chuckle or even smile on Christmas Eve or morning? It certainly should not!
Remember, you’re not a mulligrubs, miser or curmudgeon for not wanting to celebrate the neoteric take on Christmas.
“Christmas is not a time nor a season, but a state of mind. To cherish peace and goodwill, to be plenteous in mercy, is to have the real spirit of Christmas.” – former President Calvin Coolidge
