Overcoming High Fuel Prices

From 3arf

I don't know anyone that likes paying for fuel, regardless of the price. Let's all face the fact that America has some of the lowest, if not lowest gas prices in the world and they are going to get higher. All of the bitching about it won't make even the smallest difference in prices. We as Americans have to learn how to do more with less and stop buying from car manufactures that insist on feeding our egos with huge gas burners.

Stop buying the large SUV when in reality the small SUV will get the same job done. I have a small SUV that is used when I need that much seating and I have a 2 seat-er that is used anytime else. Lets see, my SUV gets 18 mpg at best and my 2 seat-er gets 30 mpg no matter how I drive it. If the weather is nice I ride a motorcycle that gets over 40 mpg, and if I'm not going far I ride a bike or walk. Don't jump in the car and drive to your mailbox. Plan your shopping instead of jumping in the car a going after something that can wait. I know most of us are spoiled and walking somewhere seems out of the question, but it's healthier and might make the difference in paying rent or putting food on the table. Gas isn't that important when it comes to essentials.

When you do need to go somewhere that isn't in walking distance, try mass transit or carpool. There are plenty of ways to beat high fuel prices if you put your mind to it and don't take the lazy road out.

How many of you speed? You really don't get anywhere much faster, but you do burn much more fuel. Learn how to drive without putting the pedal to the metal every time you move you car and take your time slowing down to stop, instead waiting until you are 50 feet from the red light and smashing the brake.

I got rid of the big SUV a couple of years ago and changed my driving habits like I mention above and can honestly tell you I save at least $125.00 a month. It's like found money that I can enjoy any way I want to and avoid any extra time spent at the gas pump. Give it a try.
