Newspaper Route
Having a paper route can be a viable second income source for an adult, or a good way for teenagers to earn spending money. By developing excellent sales techniques and customer service skills, you can increase your earning through tips, especially during the holiday season.
How to earn a lot of money from your newspaper route during Christmas:
Make a personal connection with your customers
When you begin a newspaper route, go door to door and introduce yourself to your customers. If you work during the day and a personal visit is not feasible, draft a brief letter of introduction and enclose a self-addressed, postage paid response card, along with a questionnaire to be filled out listing any delivery preferences.
Ensure conscientious performance
After the initial effort to discern which customers prefer porch service, ensure to treat each customer with the service they expect. When the weather is inclement, porch all of your customer’s papers, even those who do not ordinarily require that personal touch.
Respond to concerns
If a customer calls the newspaper office with a complaint about service, or any other issue under your realm of responsibility, and the message is passed on to you, respond to the customer, even if the error was not your fault. Maybe a dog shredded the newspaper before the customer could retrieve it. Call the customer, offer an apology and ask what you can do to make amends. The customer might want a new paper, or might be satisfied with an offer to porch his paper in the future. Whatever it takes to keep the customer satisfied would be your goal.
Demonstrate all-inclusive courtesy
Treat all of your customers with the same level of courtesy and consideration. Neighbors talk, and if Mr. X is getting better service, perhaps because he is a generous monthly tipper, and Mr. Y, who does not tip at all, is getting less consideration, that information might hurt your reputation in regard to sincerity.
Be consistent
You cannot expect to up your service right before the holidays and garner generous tips as a result. Begin your relationship with your newspaper customers with a diligent attitude and be consistent throughout the year. Printing up a small thank you flyer to include once a month in the folded paper might be a viable idea to keep your satisfactory service uppermost in the customer’s mind.
Early in December, enclose a holiday greeting card into the folded newspaper, thanking each customer for allowing you to serve them, and wishing them a happy holiday. Do this early in December. At Christmas, you are sure to be generously compensated for your conscientious efforts throughout the year.
