New Years Resolution Lose Weight
Revamping your New Year’s Resolution
How many times have you done it? Said you would quit an annoying habit or said you would lose those extra pounds as your New Year’s resolution only to give it up a few weeks into the year? We have all done it at some point. Yet it does not have to be that way with careful planning and goal setting.
First things first, set a reasonable goal and steps to achieve it. In setting the goal, you want something reasonable, attainable and specific. If you want to lose weight, how much weight do you want to lose? If you want to lose 20 pounds, how long are you giving yourself to lose it? How will you lose it? What are you willing to do and not willing to do to lose weight? Is it possible for you to lose 20 pounds? Who will help you lose the weight? You will want to answer all of these questions when you are setting this as your New Year’s resolution.
Another important thing to consider when setting a resolution is to have an accountability partner. Have someone available to motivate you on your goal will help you achieve it. It helps if it is someone who will not take excuses. For example, if your goal is to lose weight, work out in pairs with someone who is excited to go to the gym. The other person will rely on you to be there. This idea can be applied to other goals as well.
When you accomplish a step towards your resolution, reward yourself. There is nothing like treating yourself based on what you have accomplished. Again, if your resolution is to lose weight, a new outfit may be appropriate when you lose a dress size. If your resolution is to quit smoking, treating yourself to a meal out may be a great reward. The possibility of rewards is endless; you want them to be things that you will look forward to.
Lastly, when deciding on a New Year’s resolution, make sure it is a goal you want to achieve. Do not choose a New Year’s resolution purely because someone else is doing it. Do not choose a New Year’s resolution that you know you will never achieve. And do not choose the New Year’s resolution you have chosen year after year and continue to fail at. If your heart is not into it, you are set up to fail. However, if you set a resolution that you truly want to accomplish, with motivation and hard work, you can achieve it!
