New Years Resolution Diet Exercise Gym Contacts Mingle Bar Patron
While reading the various other articles on New Year's resolutions, I came to the realization that in essence, according to some, no New Year’s Resolution can be achieved without putting a severe strain on your bank account. This is simply not true. As usual, the big picture is pushed outside the realm of our minds and the modest meager frame purchased at Hobby Lobby is put center stage to be looked upon. New Years’ resolutions are “supposed” to be a positive turn in your life; however the negative aspects of these articles would not help me be motivated to do any of them at all.
My main concern centers on losing weight. Yes, it is true that losing weight sometimes do require some extra “upfront” money; however the fact of the matter is, if you do not get your health in check now, it could end up costing you more in the end. The gym is always a topic of controversy concerning weight and money. In truth, you just need to be smart about it. First, look for gyms that are offering specials; i.e., no sign-up fees or discounted three month memberships. Next, go to gyms that are month to month and do not require the signing of a year contract; stay away from monthly bank drafts at all costs. Or if the particular gym you choose requires you to give them bank draft information, simply ask if you can pay before the bank draft is sent. Most gyms are very responsive to this request and for those of you that often skirt the realm of overdraft land; this is a modest compromise on your part. Finally, ask your local gym if they need any additional help for a few hours a week. In exchange for your time, you could receive a free membership. That is what I did in college; 10 hrs a week in exchange for all the workout time I needed.
The long and short of it is that most individuals who are trying to lose weight will not get motivated by staying at home watching exercise DVDs or lifting their old Tide containers filled with water to help tone their biceps. They need other individuals around them to encourage and keep them on track with their goals. Furthermore, personal trainers are expensive; however people joining a gym for the first time can receive free personal training sessions in an effort to help them from injuring themselves while becoming acquainted with new gym equipment. Going to a gym does not have to be expensive, just review your options and be smart. I am sure that a gym membership is a mere portion of that 80/20 you will have to pay if you required to have open heart surgery due to clogged arteries.
Continuing with the losing weight issue, I would like to address diet. It is true that fad diets and fancy health foods do cost a lot of money. However, you do not ever hear anyone complaining about the price of lettuce or grilled chicken. I have never in my life heard anyone utter, “bananas are so expensive these days!” Once again, it comes down to making smart decisions; plain and simple.
The next concern of mine was the issue of going back to school. Trust me, I am aware of how expensive school is; I have the student loan payments to prove it. But who is saying you have to dive face first into it. Take one class a semester, take night school; choose a school that is in state as opposed to out of state. Also, as opposed to scholarships and student loans, there are several other ways to receive money. Grants are one of these options; the money is out there waiting to be grabbed up. It is true that you may have to fall into a special class in order to receive these grants, but if you are, go for it. Education makes way for new employment opportunities; better employment opportunities. With better employment comes higher pay. Higher pay begets a better life. Education is expensive, but there is always a way to achieve it. Just be smart.
Finally, I would like to turn to the topic of making more social contacts. Meeting new people or doing new things with the individuals you already know does not requiring spending a whole weeks pay during the weekend. You are free to go to the bar to mingle without ending up purchasing everyone there that night a shot of patron to make them be your friend. Join a club in your area that contains individuals with like interests. It does not cost anything to join a running club or a tennis group. It’s usually free and you get exercise to boot.
These are simply my own opinions on the subject, no animals were harmed in the writing of this article, and the commentaries stated during this article are not the opinions of Helium. Therefore, you are free to take the advice or throw it back. Just be smart. Go for your goals!
