Networking and new Business

From 3arf

Are you looking for a new career?  If so, you need to let other people know about your job search.  Networking is a great way to meet people who could help you launch your new career and build a promising future for yourself.  Networking with other people face to face is the best way to make a good impression of yourself.  Resumes and business cards cannot showcase your personality in the same way that an in person meeting can.  Face to face networking and social media networking will help others to get to know the real you and what you are looking for career-wise.

Career fairs are very good events for meeting prospective employers.  Several employers usually attend career fairs to promote their companies and to scout for new talent.  When attending a career fair, always have copies of your resume, cover letters and business cards with you to distribute to business representatives at the fair.  Be sure to dress professionally at career fair events; wear the type of clothes that you would wear to a job interview.  Employers at the career fair might interview you on the spot and offer you a job if they are impressed with you.

LinkedIn.com is a great website for professional business people who are interested in connecting with other professional people on the Internet.  By establishing a profile on the LinkedIn website, you will be one step closer to connecting with 135 million people living around the world who are members of the site.  On your LinkedIn member profile, you can list your work and education experiences as well as list the types of jobs you are searching for.  Other business professionals who view your LinkedIn profile can recommend you to the businesses they work for and inform you about job opportunities based on the information you include in your profile.  Facebook is another Internet social networking website that you can use to establish groups and meet other business professionals and promote your career skills.

Joining a networking group will help you to meet self-employed business owners.  If you are looking for a job and self-employment is something you have not considered, this might be the right time to consider working for yourself.  Business networking groups geared to self-employed individuals are ideal places for you to meet business owners who could offer opportunities for you to work for them, join their network marketing teams or start your own franchise.  In addition to joining networking groups, attending tradeshows, festivals and other social events are great opportunities to network with people and make it known that you are working on building your career.  Join your school’s alumni association.  Take any opportunities you can to strike up conversations with people and make connections.  When it comes to getting a job it is often who you know not what you know that will make an impact on your career.
