A course or a progress in life happen when a person undertakes a career. There are plenty of career options today. One should choose a career that he/she can find himself enjoying even after several years. Definition of career should not be restricted to just a profession or an occupation, but it should be more than that rather, a purposeful life work. To achieve something in one's career, they must set goals and targets to achieve a satisfying destination for their career. By setting goals and targets for their career, one defines at what areas they have to focus and what efforts they need to put through along the course of time. There has to be some quality in the target set for your career. There have always been five great qualities a goal must have. The smart goal setting process taught to MBA student, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound. With these five factors, one is setting specific and clear thought about the result.  It is essential as it tells us which road to take and leaves us with no fear of getting lost. Then it has to be measurable because, along the path of time, we must evaluate targets and compare with what we had planned for. Another thing is it has to be achievable. We should set goals within the capabilities and make ourselves believe that they will be able to make through it. Because, if it gets unrealistic along the way a person can get apprehensive and drop their set goal. Next is setting a realistic goal that gives us a sense of accomplishing what we can do for real. Making sure that the goal is realistic, and being honest with one, always helps achieve the desired target. Last but not the least is time bound. A time frame is extremely essential because this will signify whether passed or failed. As deadlines give perseverance, deciding on the time frame will not let one procrastinate and help speed the process of reaching the goal.

Developing a career plan is determining your skills, interests and training. All these develop into a career and help prepare to fulfill your goals and objectives. To make a career success, the best advice will be to define goals. Thus, mapping future is a magnificent way to stay happy and content in your career.

It is highly valuable to keep a balance in your life while working towards the career dreams. Therefore, when setting targets another important thing to keep in mind is to give equal importance to career and personal life, because if there is the belief in success it should not come with compromises.
