Nebraska Substitute Teaching
Schools are always looking for substitute teachers to replace teachers who are sick, have a family emergency, are on vacation, or are unable to teach on a certain day for any other reason. Classes must be held and students need a teacher even if their regular teachers are absent.
Nebraska schools like schools in any other state are always looking for quality substitute teachers. Nebraska offers two types of substitute teaching certificates. The first is a state substitute teaching certificate which you are eligible to apply for if you have completed a baccalaureate degree, an approved teacher education program, and human relations training. This certificate is valid for five years and allows you to teach for an unlimited number of states in any Nebraska school district. The second option is a local substitute certificate. This certificate is available to individuals who have completed a minimum of sixty semester hours of college or university courses, at least one professional education course whose focus was on the education of children, human relations training, and a letter from the superintendent or school board from one Nebraska school district requesting your certification. This certificate is valid for forty days of substitute teaching per school year in the school district who wrote the written request requesting your certification. These licenses are usually issued for people to substitute teach in school districts that experience difficulty in finding the amount of substitutes they need to deliver quality education to their students such as those in lowly populated rural areas.
TheNebraska Department of Educationis responsible for issuing all teaching certificates in Nebraska including substitute teaching certificates. You can access the requirements for applying for a teaching certificate on their website by taking a look at theNebraska Teacher Certification First Time Applicant Manualwhich includes all of the guidelines and forms needed for all certificates.
