Motorbikes Motorcycles Cars Vehicles Transportation

There is an alternative mode of transportation out there. It is called the motorbike. In the US it would be referred to as a motorcycle or possible even a scooter. It doesn't really matter what the name is, it is still a two wheeled vehicle that leaves the rider exposed. It will have a much smaller engine than the four wheel counterparts that it shares the road with.

To keep with the title, the term “motorbike” will continue to be used in this article. The regional name doesn't really matter as long as everyone knows what you are discussing.

As with any kind of transportation, you will have pros and cons to it. Looking on the bright side, what are the pros to using this as a means of transportation?

You get to enjoy the open road. Even if you are only commuting (rather than taking scenic cruises through the countryside) you will notice an entire new world than what you experience being encased in steel and glass. You will notice the surface of the road, the smells of nature, and probably most important, the sense of freedom, often known as “the wind in your hair”. Almost all people wear helmets these days, the sensation is still the same.

Cost. A motorbike will be cheaper to purchase, maintain, and repair. You will also save on the amount of money that you spend on fuel. Motorbikes get much better fuel economy than an automobile does.

While there is some things that you will have to get used to, riding a motorbike is quite easy. You have to pay more attention because you are exposed to the elements but your smaller size can be a real asset.

You can get in and out of traffic much easier. Finding a parking spot is a breeze compared to trying to find one for a full sized automobile. For many people, the fact that they actually get to park closer to where they are going is reason enough.

Like everything else in life, there is always some bad to go along with the good. Motorbikes are inherently dangerous. For one, you are using a vehicle that requires you to balance like on a bicycle. The only difference is, you will not go 60mph on a bicycle (unless you happen to be a contender in the Tour de France). Motorbikes are very unforgiving. The smallest mistake on your part or on anyone else can lead to serious injury or death.

You are also out in the elements. A little rain never hurt anybody but it can make riding your motorbike uncomfortable as we as dangerous. Most people have hydroplaned in a car. The same thing can happen on a motorbike except you don't have 4 wheels to keep you upright. Falling is a serious risk.

While not for everyone, most that have tried it have found that traveling by motorbike is the way to go. It is less expensive, can make your commute fun, less headaches from parking and traffic, as well as having a vehicle that is great for Sunday rides out in the country.
