Managers Hate Employees
Many employees have often suspected that their manager hated them. Let there be no doubt, managers do in fact hate their employees. At the same time, a manager must hide this unadulterated hatred for those in the labor force lest things get totally out of control. Instead of expressing their hatred for the cretins they were forced to hire in order to get the job done, managers put on a game face and use terms like empowerment, cooperative management, mutualrespectand engagement. It is a complete farce. All the manager really wants is to get the job done as cheaply as possible.
So why do managers hate their employees? On the surface the answer may seem simple but it is really quite complex. It is also full of contradictions and this also causes the manager some small level of confusion that in turn leads to even more hatred of the employee. The reasons are many but here are a few with a brief explanation:
1. Money – the employee expects to be paid for his or efforts and if the manager doesn’t pay enough the employee will run off to another manager who also hates them but at least pays more. This higher pay for labor cuts into profits and that in turn can negatively impact the manager’s bonus. The amount of money that has to be paid to an employee also goes up when the manager needs the employee to work overtime. Since the manager doesn’t get “time and a half” pay for each hour over 40 hours for the week, the manager resents the employee even more and this adds to the hatred of the employee.
2. Vacation – the fact that the employee can actually have a vacation and still get paid as if they worked is another irritant to the manager. Even when the manager is on a vacation there are still times when work calls and yet employees won’t even answer the phone if they are on vacation. Add in the fact that the employee being on vacation may mean that other employees will get overtime pay because the same job still needs to be done. At the same time, the manager doesn’t get overtime pay and this causes him to resent the employee even more. With more resentment comes more hatred.
3.Office politics– the manager is generally the person that employees try to impress so they can get a nice assignment or a raise so they are constantly either brown-nosing the manager or trying to stab another worker in the back. Some employees even try to set things up so that another workerlooks even worseto the boss. The constant games and jockeying for position, when all the manager wants is the job done, is another reason that managers hate their employees.
4. The Law – another irritant for the manager is the Law. It seems like every law is set up to protect employees from some sort of “evil” manager.harassmentlaws, fair labor standards act, whistle-blower act and countless other laws all designed to protect employees. Managers often wonder if there will ever be a law to protect managers from the stupid things employees do but in reality they know better. Employees have somehow convinced the law makers that they need these protections from managers, no doubt influenced by labor organizations such as unions which represent far too many employees. All this adds up to yet another reason that managers hate employees.
These four reasons focus in on the main reasons that managers hate their employees. If you care to believe them that is up to you. In reality, managers, at least the goodmanagers, really just want to get the job done, spend time with their family and enjoy their time off to pursue the things that interest them the most. In many ways, managers are just like rank and file employees and even managers have bosses. If every manager took the effort it takes to hate employees then the manager wouldn’t be in the job for long.
