Making an Easter Basket
Easter basket making can be great fun, the baskets are not hard to make or decorate.
We always associate Easter with chocolate eggs but you can fill your toddlers Easter basket with whatever takes your fancy.
Little in the way of equipment is needed to make a small Easter basket,
You will need a sheet of coloured card,
A length of ribbon for the handle,
Some paper glue to stick the card and secure any decorations that you may have in mind,
some coloured tissue to make paper flowers or pom - poms.
A pair of scissors and a staple gun to attach the ribbon handle.
You will need a circular template, often a small circular tray is the ideal thing.
Place the circular tray onto the sheet of coloured card and draw around the edge of it.
Then cut the large circle out of the card.
Measure the circle and make a small mark in the centre, then draw a straight line from the centre of the circle out to the edge and make a slit in the card.
After you have cut the slit into the card this allows you to fold the card into a conical basket, once you have positioned the card then dip the brush into the paper glue and run the brush along the inner edge of the slit in the card and hold it down firmly for a minute or two until it sticks firmly.
At this stage you will have the Easter basket.
The next step is to add the ribbon handle and you can do this with a small staple gun. Just a couple of staples at either side will make sure that the ribbon handle is securely fixed.
Maybe you want to add some small tissue paper flowers to the brim of the basket, they are easy to make.
Take the sheet of coloured tissue paper and cut out some circular petals, you can use the rim of a cup for a template. Then hold the centre of the circle of tissue paper and twist it so that the tissue paper is gathered in the centre, this creates a flower like shape that can be stapled onto the basket.
It is good to add the child's name to the outside of the Easter basket and this can easily be done by cutting out letters from a sheet of contrasting card and securing them with some paper glue or a staple.
At the bottom of the conical Easter basket you could consider adding a tissue paper pom-pom.
To make a tissue paper pom-pom then all you need to do is to cut lots of thin strips of coloured tissue paper, hold the bunch of tissue paper strips lengthways and tie them through the middle with a piece of thread and then fluff the tissue paper strips out until they resemble a pom-pom.
Maybe you are going to fill the Easter basket with a few small toys, or a combination of small toys and chocolate, or toys and fruit if you prefer.
Your Easter basket could have an Easter bunny attached to the front or you could go out and buy a couple of those tiny yellow fluffly chicks to stick onto it.
Whatever you fill the Easter basket with I am sure that it will delight the child on Easter Sunday.
