Making a Toddlers Easter Basket
Getting an Easter basket is a lovely tradition but for parents who don't want their young child filling up on candy, there are other options. Go into any discount drug store and there is a long aisle devoted entirely to different holiday chocolates and candies specifically for Easter. You do not need to get one of each in order to give your toddler an Easter basket to remember!
Making an Easter basket for a toddler does not have to include any candy at all. Yes, I said "no candy". There are plenty of other options that don't involve that will cause your toddler to become hyper and possibly sick.
Purchase an Easter basket that will be sturdy for your toddler to carry around. Toddlers enjoy carrying baskets. Find some larger plastic eggs that if taken apart will be too big to put in their mouth. Some fill-able plastic eggs become dangerous to toddlers when they come apart. Stores like Walmart sell the larger, toddler-safe eggs. A toddler will have fun with taking the eggs out and putting them back in.
Buy a toddler book to put in their basket. Encouraging reading at an early age is good and most toddlers enjoy being read to. You can find holiday books at many stores.
Another item to put in a toddler's Easter basket is an age-appropriate toy. Remove it from any packaging and display it in the basket so that it is ready to be played with.
Toddlers love bubbles and including a jar of bubbles for you to blow for them is a good Easter basket treat. Another treat that a toddler will like is a new sippy cup or even a cereal bowl with one of their favorite characters on it. You can be practical and still find a gift that your toddler will like.
On many holidays, it is hard to get your toddler to eat a regular meal because of a change in normal routines. If you choose to put any kind of edible treat in their basket, make sure not to give it to them until after breakfast. A package of fruit snacks hidden in a plastic egg is a welcome surprise to a toddler. With toddlers it isn't about the quantity of snacks. You need to get their interest and overwhelming them with too much stuff will make them not be interested at all.
A stuffed animal is also a nice touch for a toddler's Easter basket. Make sure that it is safe for their age and washable! A bunny, chick or lamb are favorite animals to give at Easter.
You can make your toddler's Easter basket fun without putting any candy in it at all. It just takes a little bit of creativity.
