Job Search Opportunities Careers Occupations Monster Monstercom DOT com Internet – Useful
Monster can be useful but just like any other site it clearly should not be used as the sole source of finding potential jobs. The downside to Monster is it lets anybody and everybody in. It can be a very good tool if you are nor looking for a job as a high paid executive, but if you are just looking for a general job in a place such as Customer Service it advertises numerous job opportunities and it also gives good advice. Some employers also look on the monster web sites for potential employees. But college graduates beware. All of your other classmates are probably going there too.
You will get numerous e-mails from a high number of employers from people who want you to work as a sales man or woman. The vailidity of the companies of the jobs may vary, however. If you do decide to get a job with one of these companies it is a good idea to check them out first, talk with some of the current employees if possible and do whatever other research you can to ensure they are legit.
Some may not feel monster is useful during a job search but there is one problem with only applying for jobs online: Everybody else is applying for them too. So unless you find a job you are almost overqualified for there is probably somebody applying better than you. Networking, cold calling and informational interviews are the way to go when applying for a job.
It also doesn't hurt to check the classifieds of your local paper either. Numerous authors have written books on the hidden job market and about the fact that companies go through job cycles. The trick is to find which companies are and then either apply for a job you are highly qualified for and you would find rewarding or find a way to make yourself fit in that company if it is possible. If you become a member and read one of Monster's e-mails you would know that.
Another very good benfit of Monster is it constantly gives you new jobs and provides you with plentiful information on the process of finding a job. Let's face it. The process of getting a job can be a very traumatic one especially if it entails writing things like cover letters and resumes. This comes from personal experience. Other times it has been not so traumatic.
The last reason Monster can be useful during a job search is because the site works two ways with employers and employees. It provides the employers plenty of people to fill their positions while it also provides people numerous potential opportunities for jobs which they might be interested in and may not have found. After all, that's the great thing about technology, right? People connecting without even you being there.
