Job Search Monster – Useful

From 3arf

I have to admit that I used to be highly against Monster.com. I had attempted using their service a couple years ago, and found it next to useless. I just recently found myself back on the job hunt, and I decided to give Monster another look to see if they were offering anything new, and wow. They have really started implementing some fantastic new features that I have found very helpful, and functional.

The first service I found that helped me along my Journey is their 'My Career Path Beta'. It is a program that allows you to plug in your current job title, and they will show tons of job listings that mirror, or branch from, your current career. That's not all though. Once you pick a keyword that relates to your current title, it will give you the projected growth statistics of that path, as well as some other useful information.

Secondly, Monsters career advice section is full of valuable tidbits of guidance and information. Career advice contains information to build a successful professional life. The tabs will start with your job search, more tools on how to land the right job for you. Next is tools to help you better perform on your new dream job. Finally, they will provide you with pointers of how to effectively take time off.

Unfortunately, I still don't see Monster.com as a very effective 'job search' site. More like a job advice site. From here on out, I will continue to refer to Monster on a regular basis for any career advice and growth needs, but I will still head on over to Career Builder or Craigslist to actually search for my jobs. I am not a college grad, and Monster is definitely geared a bit more to the college grad than your typical workforce individual. They seem to assume that everyone has a Bachelors Degree. My resumes on Career Builder have gotten almost 100 hits in just one day, where the same two resumes in Monster are still sitting at zero. Either I am supremely under qualified for what I am looking for, or monster just is not the site for my resume.

So, in closing, yes, you should definitely give Monster a look, and take advantage of the services they are starting to offer. They really could help you find and land that dream job you knew was out there for you. So far, they have really helped me realize that my current position of Shift Supervisor can transfer into Production Manager, or even Creative Director. Things I would have never seen my current work experience helping me achieve without the tools that Monster is supplying us with.
