Is the Chevy Corvette Overrated

From 3arf

The Corvettes appeal transcends all age groups, all sexes and legacy's like no other car. It's one of the only cars that has it's own fan club among strangers on every road. It's the only car I've ever driven that when another Corvette passes you in an opposite bound lane one waives in brotherhood fashion. Like few other exotic cars it's a car with a household name and a feeling to go along with it.

Overrated? Maybe to someone who has never driven or owned one, but never to a true car enthusiast. Part of it's appeal is that it's a testament to American ingenuity and can outwit that of the Italian and German exotic cars and keep a price tag of half as much. America does have the Viper which jumped on stage much later than the Corvette but the Viper has somewhat of a brutish feel to it. Instead of the sexiness and finesse of the Vette it has the temperament of a pro wrestler which makes the two cars a much different breed.

The Vette is one of the few cars that when it has a problem, a rattle or a squeak that it's written off as " hey it's a Vette, whatcha gonna do?" It's the car that has already prov-en itself and we forgive any infraction it may cause because we know it's better than that.

The Corvette never fails to intice those who can barely afford it to the rich and famous. It just has a magnatism and the car somehow stays in the news. Gen. Collin Powell drove the Corvette pace car in 2005's 89th Indy 500. Jay Leno has commissioned a special edition Corvette for 2008-2009. Malibu boats has even made a Corvette boat, it looks just like the car from the back making one think a Vette can drive on water, what a sight.

To finish this story I saved the worst for last. A TV show called "Mythbusters" ,hosted by two nerdy but funny guys who seek to explain old myths through experimentation, used a Corvette in a slanderous way. In a myth which posed the question of the ability to clean the smell of something having died in a car a slaughtered pig was placed in a Vette for two weeks. After an industrial cleaning and disasembling the full interior the smell remained, Vette ruined. Initially they bought what I think was a mint condition 1998 model from an individual, they must have had false hopes of cleaning the car and keeping it at the expense of the show. After they purchased the car they added insult to injury by telling the owner what the car was going to be used for.
