Intimate Dinner Decorations

From 3arf

When planning a small dinner party to act as your birthday party, you will probably want to avoid going too overboard with the decorations. After all, if only a few people will be attending, there is little reason to decorate your home as if you were expecting the whole family and all of your friends! However, it is still a good idea to do a little decorating, just so that everything is festive and fun. Here are some ideas to help turn your intimate birthday dinner into a sophisticated spectacle – but one that is easy to set up and take down!

-Mood lighting-The lighting can make all the difference when planning a party. String up some Christmas lights, light some candles, or replace normal light bulbs with colored ones to create a romantic and flattering light scheme. Using a dimmer light scheme helps to bring everyone closer together and make even a large area look more intimate, in keeping with the dinner’s intention.

-Dress the table to impress-One of the easiest ways to make a dinner party look extraordinary is to make the table setting look gorgeous. Use a nice tablecloth, light some tall candles, and use a great set of china to make everything look a little more formal than usual. Another fun idea is to create place cards using pictures of famous works of art whose color schemes match the overall theme of the dinner. This will add a gorgeous splash to the table and will provide guests with a fun souvenir to take home at the end of the evening, especially if they are personalized. Even if dinner itself is not particularly fancy, adding a few touches to the table will make it look gorgeous.

-Use some unconventional decorations-Instead of streamers, balloons, and confetti, find some interesting replacements that will look just as beautiful but complement the intimate setting. Instead of streamers, why not drape some fabric or some simple pine garlands? Even if it is not Christmastime, pine garlands are a great choice since they can be decorated to be appropriate for any occasion. Skip the balloons and float something else – such as tea light candles in a bowl of water. Add some pretty stones to the base of the bowl to add some sparkle and color. In place of the confetti, sprinkle flower petals or place some simple greenery here and there.
